Today I applied to ZKS. After I was all done Eric decided to help me. He said nice things that made me feel he admires me.

The application asked: my personal motto is...

He said: What expresses juxtaposition and
color? Or else it might be something about communication.

The application asked: My greatest accomplishment is...

He said: Perhaps this is a good time for you to take pride in the fact
that you have been self-employed most of your life. But this is
a hard question because you do good all the time and in a lot of
different ways, rather than egotistically focusing yourself on
"great accomplishments". I'm still impressed by your zine.

The application asked: One time my sense of humor helped me was...

He said: It looks to me as if it helps you every day. Unfortunately, this
is exactly the kind of thing that you have a constitutional
inability to remember. ...

...and so forth. I asked what he meant about my inability to remember sense of humor stuff and he said:

> Remember how you always used to tell me that you never had any
fun, and I'd have to remind you of the times we'd had fun
together?

God, it's true, and now I did that big 'I like my life' process I just don't think that anymore.

And then it was time to see the eclipse and I asked him what he knew about it and he reminded me

> the last total lunar eclipse visible from here was in September
1996, and I remember watching that one with *YOU* from the factory.net
parking lot in San Mateo

I reminded him about the one we watched with Barry and Alan Crowley (which was a meteor and eclipse all on the same night!) and he said
> I remember looking for
meteors up in Tilden with you and Barry and some other people one time,
during your Perseid season

which was really sweet that he remembers the big deal I always make out of the Perseids. Of course now that I had that excellent experience with Bryce, I will always have a big deal in November about shooting stars as well.
